La rama de servicios en España: un análisis comparado

Abstract

Este trabajo pretende señalar los principales rasgos que la rama de servicios presenta en la economía española. Para ello, se compara el comportamiento de una serie de variables económicas -valor añadido, empleo, productividad, deflactores y costes laborales unitarios-, desde tres perspectivas: temporal, geográfica -entre España, la UE y EEUU-; y sectorial -entre las distintas ramas que componen los servicios-. El período de análisis abarca desde 1980 hasta 1997 y los datos utilizados provienen de la Contabilidad Nacional, según la metodología del SEC-79, y se han obtenido de Eurostat. Del análisis realizado se desprende que la rama de servicios en España presenta las regularidades empíricas generalmente observadas en las economías avanzadas: una mayor inflación, un menor crecimiento de la productividad, una mayor generación de empleo y, en los servicios no destinados a la venta, un comportamiento cíclico más suave que el del conjunto de la economía. También se concluye que la evolución del conjunto de la rama de servicios en España ha seguido pautas comunes a las de las principales economías de su entorno. Las diferencias observadas son, con la excepción del carácter anticíclico de la productividad, mas de grado que de tendencia: en España la productividad ha tenido un crecimiento menor en la mayor parte de las ramas de servicios, la generación de empleo ha sido mayor y los precios han experimentado una evolución más desfavorable que en el conjunto de la UE.
