Características cognitivas, rasgos de personalidad y alfabetización financiera: papel en las decisiones financieras

Abstract

El objetivo de este estudio es analizar la relación de las características cognitivas, los rasgos de personalidad y la alfabetización financiera con las decisiones financieras de ahorro y crédito, y la participación en el sector financiero formal. Para ello tomamos como base la Encuesta de Medición de Capacidades Financieras en los Países Andinos, aplicada en Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador y Perú. De nuestro análisis se deduce la importancia de las habilidades numéricas y los rasgos de personalidad asociados a ser diligente, en la tendencia a ahorrar y a participar en los mercados financieros formales. Los resultados del análisis con variables instrumentales muestran que para decisiones más complejas o que requieren más información, como tenencia de crédito, el papel de la alfabetización financiera pudiera ser mayor que para decisiones más sencillas, como tenencia de cuentas de ahorro básicas.
