Abstract

[eng] Is there a common model of social structure in Europe?. Louis Chauvel. This paper evaluates the link between the professional structure and the inequalities in terms of education and income in Europe. The comparison reveals three models: the less developed European countries are the most unequal, with deep income and educational gaps between workers and qualified white collars ; at the opposite, the Germanic countries have a fuzzy social structure, where the hierarchies are weak and the link between the economic and the academic scales less consistent; the Latin countries are intermediate, with a hard link between education, type of job and income, even the income gap between the most and the least qualified is in the European average..
