Abstract

[eng] Employment in 1982-1983 : simple respite in the divergence beetween supply and demand - The number of jobs decreased by 190 000 in 1983. From this point of view, it was the worst year in twenty-five years. The shrinking of company work demand, attested to by numerous indicators, is very noticeable. At the same time, labor resources continued to grow. Measures taken in 1982 and 1983 favoring retirement had a definite, but only brief effect. In these conditions, the progression of unemployment, contained from the summer of 1982 to the autumn of 1983, has started up again significantly, as has been noticed in the course of the last months.
