Abstract

Cet article analyse les pertes en capital humain causées par le chômage à l'aide d'une étude empirique de la relation entre la durée du chômage et le salaire de réemploi. Le modèle permet au salaire de réserve et à la distribution des salaires offerts de dépendre de la durée du chômage. Le modèle est estimé à partir de données longitudinales sur des jeunes travailleurs canadiens qui ont subi une mise à pied et trouvé par la suite un nouvel emploi. Les résultats indiquent que, même en tenant compte de l'hétérogénéité non observable, le salaire offert est, tout comme le salaire de réserve, une fonction décroissante de la durée du chômage. This article analyzes the human-capital losses caused by unemployment using an empirical study of the relationship between the length of unemployment and the re-employment wage. The model posits that the reservation wage and the wage distribution offered depend on the length of unemployment. The model is estimated using longitudinal data on young Canadian workers who have lost their jobs and subsequently found new ones. The results indicate that, even taking account of indiscernible heterogeneousness, both the wage offered and the reservation wage are a decreasing function of the length of unemployment. El modelo permite al salario de réserva y a la distribución de los salarios propuestos depender de la duración del paro. El modelo se estima a partir de datos longitudinales en jóvenes trabajadores canadienses que han sido despedidos y que han encontrado más adelante un nuevo empleo. Los resultados indican que, aûn teniendo en cuenta la heterogeneidad no observable, el salario ofrecido es, al igual que el salario de réserva, una función decreciente de la duración del paro. [ger] Eine empirische Analyse der Beziehung zwischen der Dauer der Arbeitslosigkeit und dem angebotenen Lohn, . von Christian Belzil.. . Mit Hilfe einer empirischen Studie über die Beziehung zwischen der Arbeitslosigkeitsdauer und dem Wiedereinstellungslohn werden in diesem Artikel die Verluste an menschlichem Kapital analysiert, die durch die Arbeitslosigkeit verursacht werden. Das Modell ist so angelegt, daß die akzeptierte Lohnuntergrenze und die Verteilung der angebotenen Löhne von der Dauer der Arbeitslosigkeit abhängen können. Geschätzt wird dieses Modell auf der Grundlage longitudinaler Daten von jungen Arbeitnehmern in Kanada, die entlassen wurden und in der Folgezeit wieder eine Beschäftigung fanden. Aus den Ergebnissen geht hervor, daß selbst unter Berücksichtigung der nicht beobachtbaren Heterogenität der angebotene Lohn genauso wie die akzeptierte Lohnuntergrenze eine abnehmende Funktion der Arbeitslosigkeitsdauer darstellt.
