Critica a las bases eticas de la teoria neoclasica en la propuesta del bienestar social de Amartya Sen

Abstract

Este artículo, intenta presentar las principales críticas que el Premio Nobel de Economía en 1998, Amartya Sen, ha hecho a las bases éticas y metodológicas de las teorías utilitaristas en la ciencia económica. En la primera parte del trabajo, se esbozan los conceptos que fundamentaron las teorías del bienestar neoclásicas, haciendo un recorrido rápido desde la escuela utilitarista hasta llegar a su hija mayor, la escuela neoclásica (teoría dominante hoy en el mundo). Se parte de Bernard Mandeville hasta llegar a Vilfredo Pareto, pasando por Adam Smith, Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill, y Francis Edgeworth, autores que fundamentaron los supuestos conductuales neoclásicos. En la segunda parte se resumen las críticas que importantes economistas y filósofos contemporáneos han realizado a la teoría del bienestar individual, destacando las que hace el economista hindú Amartya Sen, con su propuesta del bienestar social.
