Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es ampliar la evidencia sobre el efecto de la educación en la salud y los salarios. Se estima un índice sintético del estado de salud para paliar el problema de subjetividad de los indicadores de autoevaluación. Para tener en cuenta la endogeneidad entre los salarios y la salud se estima simultáneamente una ecuación de salud y una de salarios considerando el sesgo de selección muestral. El estudio se realiza para España con el Panel de Hogares de la Unión Europea. Como resultados fundamentales destacan los siguientes: un mayor nivel educativo afecta positivamente a los salarios y a la salud, aunque no existen diferencias entre el estado de salud de los individuos con estudios medios y los que han alcanzado estudios superiores.
