Abstract

Greenhouse gas emissions from open pit mining cannot be ignored in global climate governance, especially since the loading and hauling link is one of the major sources of Greenhouse gas emissions emissions. Efficient green and climate-smart fleet management patterns need to be developed urgently. Hence, the emission reduction potential of open pit mine fleet management is excavated and analyzed in this work to clarify the priority manner of quality and efficiency improvement in open pit mine production, which can further point the directions for proposing practical academic solutions in this area. Firstly, the current research progress on fleet management is reviewed from three aspects: shortest path optimization, truck-shovel allocation, and real-time truck scheduling. To explicitly explore the drivers of green fleet management, the latest green and climate-smart developments in industry and academia for open pit mines are then discussed. Finally, the shortcomings of existing research on green and climate-smart fleet management are summarized in this work. It is also indicated that research directions including mining equipment utilization, clean energy truck scheduling, waste management, and accurate carbon emission measurement methodology system may provide new breakthroughs for green mining management in the future. By identifying current research gaps in open pit mining, this work can provide a solid foundation for the implementation of energy saving and emission reduction in mining enterprises.
