India: A non-tiger of Asia

Abstract

This paper compares India's national performance with that of the Asian Tigers and examines the major reasons why she has not been able to achieve the economic success of her fellow Asian countries. The paper focuses more specifically on the management of human resources at macro and micro levels. It explores the political, economic and cultural factors behind the mismanagement of these valuable resources, and argues that this mismanagement is to a large extent responsible for the country's inability to benefit from its potential competitive advantages in the international market.
