Abstract

•This review identifies and provides a comprehensive analysis of health system integration theories, models and frameworks.•Key strategies and components are identified to aid health system integration efforts.•Context-aware policies are crucial for effective health system integration.•Stakeholders and patient engagement in policy-making drives tailored, patient-centric care.
