4.2. Intertemporal capacity expansion models

Abstract

Planning must be seen as a permanent task. And, with respect to the practical application of the optimal results, as the actually interesting outcome of the planning process, the near future transition from the system presently existing to the system of the future is revealing. Intertemporal models-in connection with linear programming; i.e., multi-period models-facilitate the consistent assessment of both the long-term ideal system and the near future system representing the first step to the ideal system according to an objective pursued.
