La raza como determinante del acceso a un empleo de calidad: un estudio para Cali

Abstract

La discriminación laboral por raza ha sido un tema ampliamente analizado en la economía del trabajo a partir de la estimación de ecuaciones de ingreso para determinar diferenciales en el salario, pero la influencia de este factor en el acceso a un empleo de calidad no se ha explorado lo suficiente. Realizar este análisis cobra vital importancia para una ciudad como Cali y su área metropolitana, puesto que se caracteriza por tener el mayor número de población negra en Colombia, ascendiendo esta a 542.000 per-sonas, que representan el 26% de los habitantes de la ciudad según el Censo de 2005. Por lo anterior, en este documento se contrasta empíricamente la hipó-tesis de que la raza incide en la calidad del empleo, desde la utilización de un modelo logit ordenado generalizado que arrojó que el ser un trabajador de raza negra en Cali aumenta las probabilidades de en-contrarse en un empleo de mala calidad en un 12.2% para el segundo trimestre de 2004.
