Determinantes del diferencial salarial por género en Colombia, 1997-2003

Abstract

El presente trabajo explora los determinantes de los diferenciales salarialespor género en Colombia en el período 1997-2003, utilizandola Encuesta de Calidad de Vida. La estimación fue realizada medianteregresiones por percentiles, a fi n de analizar los determinantes envarios puntos de la distribución de salarios y no únicamente la media,como lo han hecho trabajos anteriores. A partir de las ecuaciones deingresos, se realizó una descomposición de los diferenciales. Losresultados sugieren que éstos no se explican por las diferencias encaracterísticas productivas de hombres y mujeres sino por diferenciasen las remuneraciones percibidas. En este contexto, las políticastradicionales para enfrentar esta situación como leyes de cuotas, noserían una solución efectiva si no están acompanadas por criterios deremuneración objetivos. Este tipo de esquemas existen en el sectorpúblico colombiano y han resultado ser una manera efectiva de disminuirlas diferencias en remuneraciones entre géneros.
