Wirtschaftliche Effekte der europäischen Integration auf Österreich: Simulationsergebnisse

Abstract

Mit dem EU-Beitritt waren hohe Erwartungen verbunden, Wachstumseffekte von einem halben Prozentpunkt pro Jahr wurden erwartet. Tatsächlich ist das Wachstum seit dem EU-Beitritt jedoch gefallen. Die existierenden Studien fokussieren einseitig auf die angebotsseitigen Effekte der Europäischen Integration und vernachlässigen dabei restriktive nachfrageseitige Effekte des Stabilitäts- und Wachstumspakts. Der Artikel stellt Simulationsergebnisse vor, in denen sowohl angebots- als auch nachfrageseitige Effekte berücksichtigt werden. Das den Simulationen zugrunde liegende Modell ist dem Wifo-Makromodell strukturell ähnlich. Die Simulationsergebnisse legen nahe, dass insgesamt von der EU-Integration Österreichs leicht kontraktive Effekte auf Österreichs Wirtschaft ausgegangen sind.
