Abstract

Die Verabschiedung der Sozialhilfereform 1996 bedeutete eine radikale Wende in der amerikanischen Anti-Armutspolitik. Das Sozialhilfeprogramm wurde von einem Fürsorgesystem in ein Beschäftigungsprogramm mit Arbeitspflicht umgewandelt und war begleitet von einem umfangreichen Ausbau der Einkommensunterstützungen für arbeitende Familien mit niedrigem Einkommen. Waltraud Peter, Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft, Köln, zieht nach sechs Jahren Erfahrung eine Bilanz.
