Zahl der Zuwanderer und religiösen Minderheiten wird systematisch überschätzt

Abstract

Wie eine Reihe jüngerer Forschungsarbeiten zeigt, sind systematisch verzerrte Wahrnehmungen von grundlegenden Fakten in großen Teilen der Bevölkerung vorhanden. Das gilt ebenso für Themen, die seit Jahren im Zentrum der medialen sowie politischen Debatte stehen, wie bspw. die Zuwanderung. Dieser Artikel fasst eine Auswahl der bisherigen Forschungsarbeiten zusammen, die sich mit der verzerrten Wahrnehmung der Bevölkerungsanteile von religiösen Minderheiten und Zuwanderern befassen. Die bisher veröffentlichten Papiere zeigen, dass Zuwandereranteile und religiöse Minderheiten um 15% bis zu über 600% gegenüber dem tatsächlichen Bevölkerungsanteil überschätzt werden. Die Überschätzung variiert zudem nach verschiedenen sozio-demografischen Größen, wie bspw. Geschlecht und Bildungshintergrund.
