Elternzeitverlängerung in der DDR: Langfristig höhere Lebenszufriedenheit der Kinder

Abstract

Bisherige Studien zu Elternzeitreformen kommen zu unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen, inwieweit diese die kindliche Entwicklung beeinflussen. Unsere Studie basiert auf einer Elternzeitreform aus dem Jahr 1986 in der damaligen DDR, in der es keine Selektion von Frauen in den Arbeitsmarkt oder ein unzureichendes bzw. heterogenes Kinderbetreuungsangebot gab. So umgehen wir methodologische Probleme, mit denen sich andere Studien zu Elternzeitreformen konfrontiert sehen. Wir finden signifikante und robuste positive Auswirkungen auf die Lebenszufriedenheit der heute erwachsenen Kinder.
