Stimmt die Chemie? Die Export- und Forschungsstärke der Chemischen und Pharmazeutischen Industrie im Ost-West-Vergleich

Abstract

Die Chemische und Pharmazeutische Industrie ist nicht zuletzt wegen ihrer starken Export- und Forschungsorientierung einer der Wachstumsträger der deutschen Volkswirtschaft. Prinzipiell gilt dies auch für Ostdeutschland. Wie in diesem Beitrag gezeigt wird, sind insbesondere die dortigen Unternehmen der Chemischen Industrie jedoch deutlich weniger forschungsintensiv; die internen Aufwendungen für Forschung und Entwicklung (FuE) je Beschäftigten liegen nur bei 14% des Niveaus in Westdeutschland. Es empfiehlt sich daher auch für die ostdeutsche Chemieindustrie eine gesteigerte FuE-Ausrichtung. Die Pharmazieindustrie arbeitet hingegen auch in Ostdeutschland relativ forschungs- und entwicklungsintensiv. Eine kontinuierliche Forschung und Entwicklung neuer Produkte oder effizienterer Produktionstech - niken ist jedoch auch hier erforderlich.
