Zjednotená Arabská Republika 1959: Úskalia Pri Budovaní Spoločného Štátu Egypta A Sýrie

Abstract

Príťažlivosť „arabskej jednoty“ pod vedením Džamāla cAbdannāṣira bola väčšia mimo Egypta ako v ňom. Podobne v Sýrii sa realita únie ukázala menej príťažlivou ako predstava. ZAR nebola partnerstvom medzi rovnými, ale znamenala úplné prevzatie Sýrie Egyptom. Sýrske politické strany boli zakázané a dôstojníci sýrskej armády dostávali menej významné funkcie. Pevná egyptská nadvláda postupne vyvolávala nespokojnosť najmä medzi sýrskou elitou, veľkostatkármi a veľkoburžoáziou. Koncom roku 1959 sa v Sýrii šírilo vytriezvenie z únie. Popri rozčarovaní, ktoré pociťovali politici a dôstojníci armády, nespokojnosť vyvolalo aj tvrdé uplatňovanie pozemkovej reformy. Navyše tri po sebe idúce suché roky viedli k ľudovým nepokojom. Prezident odpovedal utužením zovretia krajiny a vymenoval maršala cAbdalḥakīma cĀmira za svojho zástupcu v Sýrii.
