Demande extérieure et offre agricole de long terme: Cas des noix de cajou dans l'Union Economique et Monétaire Ouest‐Africaine (UEMOA)

Abstract

L'objectif de ce papier est de vérifier si les pays de l'UEMOA ont atteint le seuil critique d'offre de noix de cajou où la demande extérieure de ce produit serait une contrainte. Le modèle de Thirlwall (1979) est utilisé avec des données allant de 1980 à 2016. Les résultats révèlent, entre autres, que: (i) le seuil critique de croissance de l'offre de cajou dans l'UEMOA est supérieur à l'offre observée, (ii) les pays de l'UEMOA offrent seulement 58% de leur seuil critique en matière de noix de cajou, (iii) la demande extérieure de noix de cajou n'est pas une contrainte. La stratégie de development de la filière cajou ne sera donc pas celle préconisée par la théorie de la croissance contrainte par l’équilibre extérieur.
