Indikatoren im Capability-Ansatz und der Bezug zur Nachhaltigkeit: Welchen Beitrag kann der CA leisten?

Abstract

Für den Capability Ansatz (CA) sind in empirischen Studien viele Indikatoren entwickelt worden. Der vorliegende Aufsatz untersucht, welchen Beitrag diese Indikatoren zur Nachhaltigkeitsforschung leisten können. Nach einer kurzen Einführung in Struktur und Begrifflichkeiten des CA wird zunächst die Frage aufgeworfen, welche Dimensionen relevant sind bzw. nach welchen Kriterien sie ausgewählt werden können. In einem zweiten Schritt wird die Auswahl von Indikatoren für die Dimensionen angesprochen. Ein Merkmal des CA ist die besondere Rolle, die er der (Wahl-)Freiheit einräumt. Daher widmet sich ein Abschnitt der Erfassung von Freiheit mittels Indikatoren. Der fünfte Abschnitt gibt einen Überblick über die Behandlung von Umwelt und Nachhaltigkeit in bisherigen empirischen Studien zum CA. Das Fazit weist darauf hin, dass es in den meisten empirischen Studien zum CA um die Bewertung einer Situation geht und nicht um Handlungsempfehlungen. Im Kontext der Nachhaltigkeit ist das letztere interessanter. Allgemein bleibt der Eindruck, dass sowohl der Bereich Umwelt als auch die Frage nach der Nachhaltigkeit noch nicht gut in den CA integriert worden sind. Im Anhang wird zur Illustration auf der Grundlage der vorangegangenen Überlegungen ein Vorschlag für Fragen zu nachhaltigem Verhalten gemacht.
