Aviation Industry – Opportunities and Challenges for a Green Future

Abstract

The aim of this working paper is to examine the current state of Circular Economy (CE) implantation in the aviation industry, with a particular focus on Lufthansa. The aviation industry must integrate Circular Economy principles to address environmental concerns and achieve sustainable growth. CE practices, such as reducing, reusing and recycling, can significantly reduce waste, optimize resource use and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Lufthansa initiatives in sustainable fuels and innovative technologies highlight the practical application of CE concepts, enhancing both sustainability and operational efficiency. However, challenges include high costs, stringent safety standards and regulatory changes. Despite these hurdles, coordinated efforts among stakeholders and advancements in technology and policy are essential for successful CE implementation in Aviation Industry.
