Das Ausscheiden der Spitzenführungskraft aus der Unternehmung: Eine empirische Analyse

Abstract

Spitzenführungskräfte beeinflussen die Geschicke von Unternehmungen. Das Ausscheiden einer Spitzenführungskraft ist daher ein wesentliches Ereignis. Anhand einer detaillierten Dokumentenanalyse werden 57 Wechsel im Vorstandsvorsitz deutscher Aktiengesellschaften untersucht. In ca. der Hälfte der Fälle verließ der Vorstandsvorsitzende die Unternehmung vorzeitig freiwillig oder wurde entlassen. Dieses macht deutlich: Die Fluktuation von Vorstandsvorsitzenden erfolgt häufig nicht im Sinne einer langfristigen Führungskontinuität. Insbesondere in kleineren, eigentümer-kontrollierten Unternehmungen scheiden Vorstandsvorsitzende selten im Rahmen einer planmäßigen Pensionierung aus, sondern verlassen die Unternehmung bereits vorher. Ebenso gilt, daß extern berufene Vorstandsvorsitzende im Vergleich zu intern berufenen häufiger vorzeitig ausscheiden.
