Concurrence internationale et performance industrielle : allocation optimale, production optimale et turbulence

Abstract

Les echanges commerciaux produisent generalement des effets favorables sur la performance des industries manufacturieres nationales pour ce qui est de l'allocation optimale et de la production optimale. Ce document examine la theorie et les observations recentes sur ces relations et nous explorons egalement un troisieme effet, sur la turbulence dans les conditions de la concurrence et sur le mouvement des entites commerciales. Selon nos calculs fondes sur des enregistrements primaires du recensement pour le Canada pour la periode 1973-1992, il ressort, compte tenu de l'effet produit par le temps et par les industries, que le mouvement des parts de marche, l'entree, la sortie et les fusions sont autant de facteurs qui s'amplifient selon la vulnerabilite au commerce. L'effet est lie aux structures de marche de produits differencies, mais de vastes perturbations internationales (la zone de libre echange nord-americaine) ont egalement des effets prononces. Le caractere significatif normatif de la turbulence est mixte, mais il comporte des elements positifs importants.
