Abstract

The entrepreneur is a main theoretical issue. J. A. Schumpeter defines the entrepreneur as the economic agent who achieves new combinations of production factors. The entrepreneur is defined by the innovative action. We consider the Schumpeterian theory of entrepreneur as a metaphor: the Schumpeterian entrepreneur is useful to explain phenomena such as economic growth, crisis, and technical progress. In a managerial economy, the use of the metaphor is impossible. The entrepreneur has a more pragmatic role: job creation is his main function. But in any case, the function of the entrepreneur arises when market uncertainty creates risks but also opportunities for profit.
