Abstract

Serbian. English. The paper considers the problem of universality of the principle of economic efficiency, specially relating to the slavery and the efficiency of the slave workers in the South American states before the Civil War. According to modern investigations and critics of traditional chronology, the usual image that slavery arose early, in the epoch of crumbling of transition from primeval community to private property and class society, was doubted. It is showed that slavery one new institute is, arose in late middle age as the product of capitalistic development. The paper considers also the Fogel’s investigations about economic efficiency of slave labour in USA in the period before Civil war, that showed greater efficiency of slave labour and whole the slavery's есоnоmy of the South in relation to the non-slave North. The results of research had showed the relativity of the principle of economic efficiency that can’t be used as universal principle.
