Abstract

Teleworking has become an unavoidable norm in modern organizations, disrupting traditional managerial practices and requiring leaders to adapt quickly. Indeed, the absence of direct supervision and the geographical dispersion of teams create major challenges in terms of management, communication and maintaining cohesion. In this context, adaptive leadership is emerging as an essential solution for ensuring employee motivation, team commitment and organizational performance at a distance. This article explores the key competencies that leaders need to develop, such as emotional intelligence, proactive communication and trust management, in order to navigate effectively in a virtual work environment. It highlights the transformations brought about by teleworking, the specific challenges facing virtual managers, and the managerial strategies needed to overcome the limitations of distance and maximize results. Through a quantitative survey of professionals in various sectors, this study examines the impact of teleworking on managerial practices and adaptive leadership skills. The results reveal that teleworking is leading to a reinvention of managerial practices, emphasizing flexibility and interpersonal skills to maintain team cohesion and commitment. Adaptive leadership, based on trust and autonomy, appears to be the most effective response to overcoming the challenges of virtual work and adjusting leadership practices to the demands of the contemporary professional world.
