Abstract

Macroeconomic analysis of the impact of military spending on macroeconomic variables is often difficult to implement, due to the different definitions and estimates provided by specialized institutes. In addition, the content of these expenditures between operational, investment or research and development expenditures is not always known, which reduces the potential scope of analysis. Studies of the French and Moroccan economies highlight the rather negative medium-term effects of military spending on household consumption, gross domestic product and inflationary pressures. Several complementary analyses highlight the different levels of development of the two countries.
