Abstract

As part of the studies related to the UN's Disarmament for Development proposal, this econometric and simulation study aims to highlight the econometric relationships of major macroeconomic variables in a developed country (France) with aggregate military spending or investment. The results are not always robust, although they highlight the fact that other public spending would be more effective in promoting economic growth in both countries. The evolution of other macroeconomic variables, such as investment, inflation, trade, wages, employment or consumption are also analysed following a change in military expenditure.
