Abstract

Many researches have been conducted about the « extended company » phenomenon, such as organizational networks, value chains or virtual organizations. Much attention has been paid to knowledge sharing, inter-organizational learning or coordination mechanisms, but we do not know many things about human resource management (HRM) stakes. What are the HRM practices that are induced in extended companies ? What are the main challenges that practioners have to face? In this paper we defend the idea that today new forms of skill-based management are tried in several forms of extended companies, especially in clusters such as French "poles of competitiveness".
