Abstract

GDP is a dominant indicator today for comparing the economic performance of states. Yet, it was built at a time when the idea of excessive exploitation of nature and men was not yet well understood and where States were able to control and protect national economic activities. He is now out of date. Similarly, measures by purchasing power parities are not without interest, but they are nonetheless used for purposes that do not correspond to the object of its measurement, the determination of comparative purchasing power parties of countries. Finally, if the market economy has prevailed as a general principle of the functioning of the world economy, the "mercantilist" reality of the foundation of the economic policies of the States is realized by the orientation of the rules fixed by the international economic organizations, often for the benefit of the most powerful states.
