Abstract

There are two organisational models in sport. In North America, the leagues are "closed" and highly regulated. In Europe, the leagues are "open" and are part of a liberal system. This paper highlights a paradoxical geographical phenomenon: those two different models lead to a similar geography of professional sport, characterised by a metropolisation of activities.
