Abstract

L'évolution de la répartition spatiale des activités et des hommes en Europe conduit à des difficultés et des incertitudes grandissantes dans les zones rurales. Cette restructuration amène à s'interroger sur les perspectives économiques et sociales qui s'offrent aux habitants de ces régions et pose la question du développement rural. Dans cette communication, on passe en revue les éléments d'analyse économique utilisables pour fonder une politique de développement rural et on propose des méthodes pour l'analyse de ces questions. La première section souligne le poids des forces d'agglomération dans la dynamique spatiale et montre l'intérêt de l'approche organisationnelle pour structurer les espaces ruraux. Dans la deuxième section, on examine la pertinence des politiques existantes et on discute les facteurs sur lesquelles elles peuvent s'appuyer. Enfin, la dernière section est consacrée à une présentation critique des méthodes utilisées pour l'analyse du développement rural.
