Abstract

Les Prestataires de Services Logistiques (PSL) sont devenus en une trentaine d'années des acteurs incontournables des chaînes logistiques. Ces chaînes logistiques que les anglo-saxons appellent « supply chain » constituent un système à travers lequel les organisations livrent leurs biens et services à leurs clients. Elles forment un réseau d'organisations inter-reliées et ayant un objectif commun (Fulconis et al., 2011). Dès le milieu des années 1980, de nombreuses entreprises industrielles ou commerciales se sont désengagées de la réalisation opérationnelle de leurs activités logistiques (transport, entreposage…) qui ne formaient pas le coeur de leur métier. Ainsi a émergé un nouvel intervenant, le PSL. Ces opérateurs, qui mettent donc à la disposition des chargeurs (propriétaires des marchandises transportées) des moyens spécifiques de transport et d'entreposage, ont élargi leur offre de services vers d'autres activités à plus forte valeur ajoutée allant jusqu'à l'opérationnalisation et le pilotage de systèmes logistiques et informationnels complexes et personnalisés. La prise en compte du Développement Durable (DD) ou de la Responsabilité Sociétale d'Entreprise (RSE), constitue également un moyen de créer des partenariats de long terme entre le PSL et ses clients. Malgré un développement, important et de longue date des travaux académiques sur le DD et la RSE, les chercheurs en logistique n'ont commencé que relativement récemment à intégrer ces questions à leurs préoccupations et à les considérer comme un sujet important dans la gestion de la chaîne logistique (ou supply chain). Face à l'exigence croissante de la part des ONG, de la société civile, des salariés et des parties prenantes… de transparence sur les questions environnementales, éthiques et sociales, l'objectif de ce chapitre est de comprendre quelle place le DD et la RSE ont réellement dans le développement de l'offre des PSL.
