Movilidad social en el Pacífico colombiano

Abstract

El Pacífico colombiano es una de las regiones con las peores condiciones de vida para sus habitantes. En este documento se estudia la movilidad social intergeneracional con base en datos de la Encuesta Nacional de la Protección Social del 2012 y la Encuesta Nacional de Calidad de Vida de 2011. Por medio de matrices de transición e indicadores de movilidad basados en regresiones, se encuentra que la región tiene menor movilidad social que el promedio nacional; esta movilidad es mayor para los jefes de hogar que para los cónyuges, especialmente si son mujeres. Las minorías étnicas registraron mayor movilidad social que su contraparte, aunque en términos generales la región se encuentra en desventaja. Se encontró, además, que el Pacífico presenta una situación desventajosa en todos los factores que determinan la movilidad social intergeneracional. ******ABSTRACT: The Colombian Pacific is one of the regions with the worst living conditions. In this paper, the study of social mobility is extended with data from the National Social Protection Survey from 2012 and National Social Quality of Life from 2011. Via transition matrices and regression based indicators of social mobility, I find that the Pacific region has lower social mobility than the national average. This mobility is higher for householders than for spouses, even more for women. Ethnic minorities reported greater social mobility than its counterpart, but overall the region is at a disadvantage. I also found that the Pacific region has a disadvantage situation over all the determinant factors of intergenerational social mobility.
