Bancarización y Empoderamiento Femenino

Abstract

Resumen El acceso al sistema financiero ha mostrado tener efectos positivos sobre los hogares pobres. Al darle acceso a las mujeres al sistema bancario se podría esperar un aumento en sus activos psicológicos y físicos y por tanto mayores instrumentos que fomenten el empoderamiento: la toma de decisiones en sus hogares y en su comunidad. Esto puede generar impactos sobre variables de bienestar a nivel individual, del hogar y de la sociedad. Usando las bases de datos de la evaluación del programa de transferencias condicionadas de Colombia, Familias en Acción, se investigan los impactos de la bancarización sobre el empoderamiento de las mujeres aprovechando la apertura de cuentas de ahorro para las beneficiarias en 2009. No se encuentra impacto de la bancarización sobre medidas de empoderamiento femenino a nivel de hogar pero sí a nivel social en términos de participación en organizaciones de la comunidad.
