Y a-t-il discrimination à l’embauche des jeunes Maghrébins au Québec ? Résultats d’une expérience contrôlée à Montréal

Abstract

Pour comprendre les obstacles à l’embauche des Maghrébins, nous avons demandé à 162 personnes de se mettre dans la peau du recruteur d’une organisation et d’examiner des candidatures fictives provenant de Maghrébins et de Franco-Québécois. Les résultats indiquent qu’un Maghrébin a 29 % moins de chances d’être retenu pour un entretien d’embauche qu’un Franco-Québécois. 12,5 % de l’écart observé pourrait être attribuée à de la discrimination, et l’écart restant au fait que les candidats maghrébins ont des connaissances en français et en anglais qui sont inférieures à celles de leurs concurrents. À l’étape suivante où se fait le choix du candidat à embaucher après les entretiens, les recruteurs font preuve d’une discrimination plutôt positive en faveur des candidats maghrébins qui se sont rendus à cette étape. Ainsi, le plus grand défi pour les candidats maghrébins consiste à décrocher un entretien d’embauche. Par ailleurs, les participants qui ont été sensibilisés aux dispositions de la Charte des droits et libertés et ceux qui ont été avisés du fait que leur organisation prône la diversité en emploi n’ont accordé aucune faveur aux candidats maghrébins. Même chose pour ceux qui ont suivi des formations en gestion des ressources humaines ou en gestion de la diversité.
