Abstract

Este trabajo presenta un modelo teórico que permite analizar las consecuencias de la pregresiva sustitución en España durante los últimos años del sistema de precios fijos en los libros de texto por un sistema de descuentos o precios libres. Nuestros resultados prueban formalmente que esta política de liberalización comercial no genera necesariamente efectos positivos para toda la sociedad, ya que altera la estructura de mercado de las librerías tradicionales, a quienes perjudica frente a las grandes superficies, con el beneplácito de las empresas editoriales. El trabajo también contribuye a explicitar las relaciones que existen entre los incentivos de los principales agentes que ocurren en este sector, alguna de las cuales son finalmente contrastadas de manera empírica.
