Abstract

The two German companies Julius Berger International GmbH and HUESKER Synthetic GmbH are cooperating successfully for many years on behalf of the Nigerian construction company Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. Several major civil engineering projects require innovative construction solutions. Specific geotechnical and construction expertise, high quality geotextile products, founded knowledge of importing goods into Nigeria along with international experience in logistics and operating abroad are key competencies of the German partnership. Presently, two major infrastructure projects in challenging environments are under construction. A road project through the Niger Delta wetlands requires ten million linear meters of vertical drains and 500,000 square meters of geotextile reinforcement while the bridge connecting approaches at the river Niger will be equipped with Geotextile Encased Columns (GEC®) and geotextile reinforcement to carry the loads of high embankment and to ensure restricted settlement.
