Abstract

The cultural adjustment of expatriates to their host country is an important condition for a successful expatriation. This applies to the expatriates themselves as well as to their families. While the practical relevance of this aspect of foreign delegations in undoubted, there is still a lack of knowledge of those factors which might improve and which might restrain cultural adjustment. Similarly, little is known about the consequences of successful cultural adjustment. This edited volume contains eight chapters which analyze different aspects of cultural adjustment. A detailed state-of-the-art review is followed by seven empirical studies of different antecedents and consequences of this phenomenon. Two chapters are written in English and six in German language. All contributions originate in various research projects at the Department of International Management at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg.
