Abstract

¿Es posible mejorar la calidad de la educación en América Latina y el Caribe? Según los expertos autores de estas páginas, hay soluciones pero no atajos: se trata de comenzar de cero y de apuntalar los aprendizajes sobre todo en los niveles preescolar y primario. Este volumen ofrece una secuencia que sigue el proceso natural del ciclo educativo: comienza con las intervenciones tempranas y luego aborda en detalle diversos ángulos de la calidad docente, como los procesos de ingreso, los incentivos y la capacitación. También incluye el análisis de otros factores determinantes de la calidad educativa, como la infraestructura, la tecnología y las innovaciones pedagógicas. Los factores determinantes de la calidad de los docentes constituyen toda un área de análisis en sí mismos y por eso se enfatiza este aspecto. El libro consta de 10 capítulos, divididos en tres partes. En la primera se expone el panorama general, en la segunda se examinan los diversos componentes e insumos del sistema educativo y en la tercera se presentan las experiencias exitosas para las que el Banco ha generado información mediante evaluaciones de impacto, sin dejar finalmente de lado los principales retos que enfrenta la región hacia el futuro.
