Abstract

A European consortium of science, industry and institutions joined forces during the final quarter of 2017 to collaborate in transforming six European industrial regions into economically robust low‐carbon centres by 2025. The ALIGN‐CCUS (Accelerating Low Carbon Industrial Growth through CCUS) project has financial backing from the participating countries and the European Union. In this interview, Peter van Os, of the Dutch research institute Nederlandse Organisatie voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek (TNO), who is leading the ALIGN‐CCUS project consortium, talks to GHG about the project. He explains how it is aligning a range of issues to bring about a paradigm shift in the perception and deployment of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in the EU and beyond.
