Österreichs außenwirtschaftliche Beziehungen mit den westlichen Balkanländern

Abstract

Die Region Westbalkan – Albanien, Bosnien–Herzegowina, Kosovo, Kroatien, Mazedonien, Montenegro und Serbien – hat aufgrund der geographischen Nähe, der intensiven Wirtschaftsbeziehungen sowie der Politik einer Annäherung an die EU einen hohen Stellenwert für Österreich. Der heimische Außenhandel ist außergewöhnlich eng mit diesen Ländern verflochten. Auch die hohen Marktanteile im Warenexport und Österreichs Rolle als bedeutendster Auslandsinvestor in Kroatien, Bosnien–Herzegowina und Serbien unterstreichen die herausragende Position Österreichs in dieser Region. Die Finanzmarkt- und Wirtschaftskrise sowie die europäische Schuldenkrise dämpften die Dynamik der Exporte und Direktinvestitionen in den Westbalkanländern deutlich. Bereits 2010 zeichnete sich eine leichte Erholung ab, gemäß den vorläufigen Werten von Jänner bis November 2013 sind die Auswirkungen der Krise jedoch noch nicht überwunden. Mittelfristig könnte die österreichische Wirtschaft von einer Intensivierung der außenwirtschaftlichen Beziehungen mit der Region überdurchschnittlich profitieren.
