Politische und wirtschaftliche Perspektiven der EU-Osterweiterung

Abstract

Die EU-Osterweiterung bietet Österreich die Chance, mit seinen Nachbarn wieder die vollen politischen und wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen zu entfalten. In wirtschaftlicher Hinsicht verspricht dies größere Entwicklungspotentiale, aber auch einen größeren Anpassungsdruck als für die EU-Staaten im Durchschnitt. Die Ausschöpfung der wirtschaftlichen Möglichkeiten hängt allerdings von politischen Faktoren, insbesondere von der Reform der Institutionen der EU und der Gestaltung des Beitritts entscheidend ab. Die Aussagen über Erweiterungseffekte sind auch deshalb unsicher, weil kaum vorhersehbar ist, welchen Weg die Transformationsländer einschlagen würden, falls der Beitritt in absehbarer Zeit nicht zustande käme.
