Abstract

Technology makes all kind of business functions(such as manufacturing, finance, service, etc.) perform better. To survive in a highly competitive business environment, companies should resign their structure by new technologies. On the other hand, sectors which are not so competitive like public library services, need to use new technologies to serve better. One of new technology applications that has been used in various sectors for 2000 years, is RFID technology. In this context, it was investigated whether RFID technology was useful for library services with a case study in a concept of qualitative research method. For the case study, Turkey was chosen as a sample by IRCICA library in Istanbul. IRCICA library is working with RFID technology and using UHF RFID system. It was thought that IRCICA library was a suitable sample for this case study because of IRCICA library’s historical development and functional attitudes. Data were collected by the way of interview, archival data and observation, and then they were analysed according to their intended purpose. It is thought to be useful and pioneer for library services to develop their function system with RFID technology.
