Publication Patterns in Regional and Urban Analysis: Have Topics, Techniques and Applications Changed During the 1990s?

Studies 37 , 351-363. The current state of regional and urban science has been much discussed and a number of studies have speculated on possible future trends in the development of the discipline. However, there has been little empirical analysis of current publication patterns in regional and urban journals. This paper studies the kinds of topics, techniques and data used in papers published in nine top international journals during the 1990s with the aim of identifying current trends in this research field. On fait couler beaucoup d'encre sur l'etat actuel de la science urbano-regionale et quelques etudes s'interrogent sur les tendances futures e ventuelles quant au developpement de cette discipline. Toujours est-il que rares sont les analyses empiriques qui traitent de la structure actuelle des articles parus dans les revues d'economie regionale et urbaine. Cet article cherche a etudier les types de questions, de techniques et de donnees employees dans les articles publies dans neuf des premieres revues internationales pendant les annees 1990 dans le but d'identifier les tendances actuelles dans ce domaine de recherche. Der gegenwartige Stand der Regional-und Stadtkunde ist ausgiebig erortert worden, und viele Studien haben sich mit dem moglichen zukunftigen Verlauf der Entwicklung dieser Disziplin beschaftigt. Es mangelt jedoch an empirischen Analysen aktueller Muster dessen, was in Zeitschriften der Regional- und Stadtkunde erscheint. In der Absicht, die gegenwartigen Tendenzen auf diesem Forschungsgebiet herauszustellen, werden in diesem Aufsatz die verschiedenartigen Themen, Techniken und Daten in Aufsatzen untersucht, die in den neunziger Jahren in neun fuhrenden internationalen Zeitschriften erschienen.
