Developing the halal-sufficiency scale: a preliminary insight

Abstract

Halal compliance is an essential indicator of living and practicing Islamic doctrines, principles and rules in the actual life of Muslims. For that reason, a valid and reliable instrument was required to measure the adequacy of halal consumption and the behavior of Muslims. Two groups of data were used in this study: 80 respondents were used as data for EFA analysis, and 302 sample data were analyzed using the IRT approach based on the graded response model (GRM) and general partial credit models (GPCM) approaches. The EFA approach yields two factors on the “halal sufficiency” scale: business-halal adequacy and halal-control adequacy. The IRT approach produces information related to items with good item functions, namely items 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8. While items 1 and 7 have low item functions, they can still be used in measuring the adequacy of halal behavior among millennials in Indonesia.
