Intangible assets and MNEs’ locational strategies for innovation—or: why the regional matters

Abstract

Dieser Artikel präsentiert qualitative Erkenntnisse der wichtigsten Kanäle über die immaterielle Vermögenswerte in Innovationsprozessen von Multinationalen Unternehmen (MNUs) verstärkt werden und beschreibt ihre räumlichen Wurzeln und Auswirkungen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf den drei immateriellen Vermögenswerten Human Capital, Organisational Capital und Network Capital, welche sich in der wissenschaftlichen Literatur als besonders relevant für Multinationale Unternehmen als auch die regionale Wissensentstehung und Wissensausbreitung herausgestellt haben. Die Studie wurde auf der Grundlage von über vierzig leitfadengestützten Interviews mit leitenden Managern und wissenschaftlichen Personal bedeutsamer Multinationaler Unternehmen des Automotive, Life Science und IKT Sektors aus Deutschland und dem Vereinigten Königreich erstellt. Durch die Fokussierung auf die Prozesse, durch die Investitionen in immaterielle Vermögenswerte stattfinden und die Strukturen, welche diese Prozesse innerhalb des Unternehmens und dem regionalen Umfeld unterstützen, konnten wichtige Erkenntnisse über die Bedeutung von immateriellen Vermögenswerten für die Einbettung Multinationaler Unternehmen in Regionale Innovationsysteme identifiziert werden.
