Abstract

The paper is devoted to the analysis of the process of hiring workers in small enterprises in the region of Wielkopolska. This phenomenon is analyzed from the perspective of anthropology, according to which culture is the primary source of knowledge of economic phenomena. The purpose of the paper is to describe and understand employment practices within the peripheral segment of the labour market. According to numerous studies entrepreneurs' social networks play a key role in hiring in microenterprises. The author of the paper is trying to convince the reader that the high rate of informal methods in microenterprises is an outcome of some useful practices developed in response to the cultural identity of the labour market within which these kind of companies operate. Both in the theoretical and empirical part of the paper reconstruction of the "social world" of microenterprises is reconstructed. The paper is based on the results of the author's own qualitative research.
