Abstract

Finance has always been about trust (Dhar & Stein, 2017). Financial services firms carry out transactions as “retail banking, commercial lending, insurance, credit cards, mortgage banking, investment advisory and asset management, sectors that, until the 2008 financial crisis, dominated the industry with corporate stability and safe employment (Gomber, Kauffman, Parket & Weber, 2018). After the crisis a technological revolution began as a result of the problems caused by traditional companies, causing a lack of trust and credibility in most of the traditional industries, being there when the famous FinTech concept comes into play. Although it is still in development, its impact is already being disruptive, especially in two of the sectors that conform it, and whose study and analysis engage the content of this project. These two sectors are Blockchain and cryptocurrencies, that are currently impacting the general economy in ways never seen before, and whose future impact estimation is going to be the main focus of this paper.
